Orlando Florida LGBTQ Wedding at Art & History Museums of Maitland: Sara + Jen

This celebration was supposed to happen in 2020, but of course the universe had other plans. Instead, Sara + Jen eloped in their backyard last fall, and postponed their Florida celebration to 2021! And it was so nice to escape Ohio in November for warm, sunny and colorful Florida!

Their wedding (part 2!) took place in Orlando and nearby Maitland, and it was truly a weekend celebration. We started at their welcome dinner on Saturday evening, at the Wellborn Restaurant in Orlando. A truly quirky place, with lots of character! This evening they had a cocktail hour, dinner, cake cutting, formal dances and an open dance floor for their guests. It was as if they did their reception first!

The next morning was their brunch ceremony. I joined Sara and Jen bright and early at 6:30am at the Sheraton Orlando hotel as they got ready for the day. Then we headed to their venue, the Art and History Museums of Maitland, where I staged their first look in the outdoor Mayan chapel. We got all their photos out of the way – wedding party, family, and the two of them – before their ceremony was underway.

Sara and Jen entered their ceremony together, and they recited the same vows they did one year ago at their elopement, but it was no less emotional. Especially now, in front of their family and friends, including Jen’s grandmother who resides in Florida was the main reason they decided to have their wedding there.

Afterwards, they celebrated with a coffee hour (instead of cocktail hour), a brunch meal, more portraits and a super fun streamers exit to their getaway car! I can’t tell you how much fun it was to be included in this! After all we’ve been through, we all needed this weekend of pure joy, color and love. And for Sara and Jen to bring me out there to document every moment was nothing short of a huge honor. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
