Mount Rainier National Park LGBTQ Engagement: Kara + Kayla

Kara + Kayla are planning their July 2022 wedding in Ohio, and after confirming my availability for their date, their next question was: would you come out to Tacoma, Washington where we live, for our engagement session? Well, my answer was quick and easy: of course!!! I actually had never been to the Pacific Northwest, and I was beyond thrilled for the opportunity.

I headed out there on the third week of September, got in Monday morning. That evening we met to go over a game plan for our day together. Tuesday was the day, we headed out to Mount Rainier National Park that morning. What a beautiful day it was! Sunny and warm, the sky was clear and the mountain was in clear view. It was truly a literal dream, photographing at a mountain with Kara and Kayla. I had to pinch myself several times!

We headed back to Tacoma in early afternoon, stopped a rainbow LOVE mural in town for a few quick shots, swung over to their house and picked up their pup Mario, and visited a brewery in the heart of the city. And as evening approached, we ended at the beach at Chambers Bay Park. We got all of golden hour, as the reflected on the water and all around us. I even convinced them to dip their toes in at the end! It was the perfect end to a dream day.

Kara and Kayla’s love radiates and I felt so privileged to document it in such a beautiful place. And I am so grateful that they brought me out there for this adventure!

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
