Hocking Hills Wedding Chapel Fall Elopement: Kate + Jacob

A marriage 20 years in the making! After 20 whole years of dating, Kate + Jacob eloped in Hocking Hills on their 20th dating anniversary: 10.20.20! Yes, a Tuesday. Give me all the weekday elopements, especially in Hocking Hills, forever and ever.

They always planned a small wedding. When they first booked me (pre-pandemic), they were trying to decide between having around 20 guests, or no guests at all. And after the pandemic hit, I even remember us discussing at their summer engagement, they continued to agonize over the guest list, ultimately landing on 4 guests: their daughter, Taylor, and their closest friends, a family of 3 (clients of mine also!). The microest of all micro weddings!

It was a misty fall day when I came down to Hocking Hills from Columbus, but these two didn’t let the rain get in the way of their fun! At the Hocking Hills Wedding Chapel, they got ready in one of the on-site cabins and proceeded with their tiny outdoor ceremony. They did a little dance down the aisle, followed by portraits (my cute umbrella made an appearance!), a cake cutting, and a small dinner. And before I left, we had to get some epic night shots in the rain! When you have so few guests present, it really does make the photography that much more important. It was a total honor capturing Kate + Jacob’s big, but tiny, day! (There is some talk about getting back together for a reception in the future, and I for one would not be mad to do this all over again with them!)

Also, peep those fabulous paper florals from Paper Blooms Design!

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
