Jessica + Lydia: Columbus Ohio Same-Sex Jewish Wedding at Camp Mary Orton

I first met these two back in March of 2015, when Lydia hired me to photograph her proposal to Jess at Franklin Park Conservatory! Then we got back together last fall for their Clintonville engagement. Now it was time to finish the trilogy – with their most amazing wedding day at Camp Mary Orton, on Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

We actually began their day in dowtown Columbus, where Lydia got ready at the Crown Plaza Hotel, and Jess was at a separate room at The Lofts next door. Once they were dressed, they opened up each other’s wedding day gifts, and we staged their first look in the alley behind the hotels. The way I staged it, they got to see one another at the exact same time, and their expressions were priceless! Afterwards, we spent a little more time for portraits for just the two of them, before hopping on their school bus with their wedding party and heading north to their wedding venue, Camp Mary Orton.

Once at their venue, their wedding party and their family joined us for more portraits around the grounds, followed by additional portraits of just Lydia and Jess. We couldn’t have had a more perfect day!

As guests began to arrive, Lydia and Jess, along with their loved ones and their rabbi, gathered in a nearby pavilion for the ketubah signing. Immediately after was their wedding ceremony as the sun set. After they both broke the glass and shared their first kiss under the chuppah, they exited the aisle full of smiles right into their cocktail hour. I also borrowed them for a few more portraits against the golden hour light.

Their party continued inside, with toasts, cake cutting, a first dance and a hora! And lots more dancing into the night – they went so hard, Jess actually broke her foot after I left! Now that’s a party!! Mazel Tov to Lydia and Jess!!

Amy Ann Photography

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
