Columbus Ohio Winter Wedding at Star Lanes Polaris: Nickey + Gabriel

Nickey + Gabriel got married at a bowling alley, because that’s just how they roll!! 🎳

This is what it looks like to have a wedding exactly the way you want it: getting ready at home with your kiddo, a Groundhog Day themed celebration with a retro vibes, cake centerpieces, sparkly snow and endless fun! My first wedding of 2022… If this sets the tone for the year I am NOT mad about it!

It was the firs Saturday in February, and we began the day at their home, we were just emerging from a two day winter storm. Gabriel made them sandwiches before they got started! After each of them got dressed (Nickey wore the most amazing jumpsuit!), they had a casual and very sweet “first look” in their living room. Then we jumped outside for some snowy portraits! It was sunny too and the snow just sparkled. We then returned inside so they could help their son Flynn get ready before heading to their wedding venue!

And their wedding venue was a bowling alley, Star Lanes at Polaris! There, Nickey and Gabriel were married against a sparkly black backdrop by their friend and mine, Brooke Cartus (who told the couple about me, thank you!). Naturally the ceremony was full of laughs, but also one big surprise: the couple had secretly eloped in their living room a year prior, on Groundhog’s Day! They hadn’t even told their closest family.

Their Groundhog Day themed celebration continued, with cake centerpieces & cake cutting, a proclamation, an jumpsuit change, first dancing, golden hour portraits, and of course, BOWLING! This day was nonstop fun from beginning to end. I didn’t want it to end! I even got to join the bride for a round of play – I bowled 2 strikes! Congratulations to these two, on their second wedding!

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
