Feminist Photo Vaycay in San Juan, Puerto Rico | Columbus Ohio Queer Wedding Photographer

Before our world got turned upside down, I retreated for a few days to Puerto Rico, where I met up with a bunch of other like-minded photographers and wedding professionals for the latest installment of Feminist Photo Vaycay! We rented a house just outside San Juan, just steps from the beach, catching up with old friends and getting to know new ones, trading ideas and techniques and even learning a thing or two about tarot.

On our second day there, we had the pleasure of meeting Jhoni and Carla, a real-life couple that lives on the island, for our photoshoot! We started by shooting around the house we were staying at, took a quick walk to the very windy beach, and then moved on to Old San Juan. These two were a joy to shoot, down for all our crazy ideas and for having so many cameras stuck in their faces. And of course, San Juan is full of inspiration at every turn, from the vibrant colors to a culture full of history and pride.

Though this was a little over 5 weeks ago, it simultaneously feels like a lifetime ago, and just yesterday. It’s a great escape in my mind. Thanks, Here Now Magic, for making all this possible.

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
