Same-Sex Church Wedding in Logan, WV: Lori + Michelle

When I met Michelle + Lori, just 6.5 weeks before their wedding day, they told me their story about how they met on a softball field in Eugene, OR nearly 14 years ago. Now these days they call Columbus, Ohio home, and when recently discussing getting married, Michelle said she’d only do it if they could do it in her hometown church – the church where she grew up in, in a tiny town of Logan, in southern West Virginia. As the Pastor later told the story at their ceremony, he was new to the church himself and wasn’t sure how well the proposal would go over. But it was overwhelmingly approved – and so Michelle and Lori were planning a wedding!

I was so honored to travel to Logan, WV to capture their church wedding, nestled in the rolling mountains. It was a 4 hour drive from Columbus that went by in a breeze. Following their ceremony and family portraits, we explored the block around the church for some portraits, before traveling down the road to Chief Logan State Park for even more.

Then back in Columbus that following Friday, we met up for additional portraits in two locations special to them – Scioto Audubon Metro Park, and the softball fields at Berliner Sports Park.

Congratulations to these two!

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
