Nici + Nick: Columbus Ohio Fall Wedding at the Columbus Zoo’s Heart of Africa

Nici + Nick’s Columbus Zoo wedding was colorful and included some non-traditional animal guests!

We began our day at the nearby Hilton Polaris, where Nici and Nick got ready. It was a Saturday in mid-October, a beautiful day in my favorite time of year! Once dressed, we staged their first look on the back patio of the hotel, just the two of them. From there, we headed to nearby High Banks Metro Park for couples portraits. I loved that since they didn’t have a wedding party, we got to focus on portraits with just the two of them. And they were up for exploring any random spot we found!

Upon our arrival at the Zoo, Nici and Nick had one priority portrait in mind: a picture of them riding a camel! We made it happen, and I even got to ride a camel myself while getting the shot! That was quite an experience. Following their ceremony overlooking giraffes, ostriches and zebras in the Heart of Africa exhibit, Nici and Nick got to hang out with a baby kangeroo, a leopard cub, a sloth, and their favorite – a bearcat! The bearcat in particular climbed over Nick’s shoulders to reach Nici, a particularly hilarious shot that was hard to shoot while I was laughing!

The celebration continued back inside with dinner, dancing, cake and a photobooth! Congratulations to Nici + Nick!!

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
