Betsy + Clara: Columbus Ohio Same-Sex Wedding at Via Vecchia

Betsy + Clara’s downtown Columbus wedding at Via Vecchia was my true kick-off to wedding season! They were one of my first weddings booked for 2015 and I had been looking forward to it for so long! With their longer engagement, we got to know each other really well, and we saw one another often, between their engagement session, my open house and they were even one of my featured Quorum magazine couples!

We started their May wedding day at the Westin hotel in downtown Columbus. They prepped in separate rooms, where they exchanged gifts, and even prepped their pup Punkin who would join them for some portraits! I staged their first look in an alley near the hotel. Punkin joined in wedding attire of her own! For those first photos, I won’t lie – she stole the show. But it was a hot day, so we said goodbye to Punkin and headed to the Short North for a few more shots, before ending our trip at their wedding venue, Via Vecchia, where the festivities would begin!

Their ceremony was super sweet, incorporating elements that were truly “them” – for instance, the first line was: “Mawage!” There no shortage of laughter throughout their ceremony. Afterwards, we shot a few more portraits in the alley at Via Vecchia, before the party was underway! And let me just say, this group knew how to have fun! The night ended after sunset with a sparkler exit.

I can’t thank Betsy + Clara enough for including me in their big day! And now that marriage equality has finally come to Ohio (and nationwide), they had legal ceremony this past Friday – so an even bigger CONGRATULATIONS is in order! (and I would have totally been there if I didn’t have a wedding of my own that day!)

Love you two, and Punkin too!

Amy Ann Photography

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
