Tenzin and Jonathan’s wedding day was truly an experience. There are very few words that could do their incredible day justice. It was full of culture, color, and love! It was also a very, very long day – my longest ever, at over 14 hours! This was because they fit not one, but TWO wedding ceremonies – one Tibetan, and one American – into one day!
We started early that morning at the home of Tenzin’s parents in Columbus. In their living room, it was a tight squeeze, as their closest friends and family gathered for their Tibetan ceremony. Videographers from AddVison were also on hand to document. There were meaningful passages spoken, and lots of rituals, which included eating and drinking various traditional foods, and receiving special scarves from each guest present. They even gave me a scarf to wear! The ceremony ended outside, followed by a very delicious Tibetan lunch.
After the morning portion of the day, Tenzin and Jonathan and their wedding party headed downtown to change into their American wedding attire, and we had a first look and wedding party portraits on the Scioto Mile and Brewery District. It was a *really* hot day in mid-July, and they were troopers getting through all their outdoor portraits!
From there, we headed to the German Village, to their wedding venue: the Grange Audubon Insurance Center, one of my absolute favorite venues in Columbus! My assistant Sarah Williamson joined me there to second shoot for the rest of the day. The rest of their 250 guests joined them an outdoor American wedding ceremony, where Tenzin surprised Jonathan by releasing butterflies in honor of his late grandfather. They recited vows to each other they had written themselves.
After their American ceremony, Tenzin and Jonathan changed back into their Tibetan attire, to hold another Tibetan ceremony for their 250 guests inside! After more amazing Tibetan food for dinner, provided by Global Gallery, and toasts, cake cutting, and a bouquet and garter toss, Tenzin and Jonathan stayed in their Tibetan attire and danced the night away!
Tenzin and Jonathan, thank you so much for choosing me to document your most amazing wedding day! It was an experience I will never forget!
