Galena Ohio Backyard LGBTQ+ Wedding: Marina + Griff

The queer fairy backyard wedding of my dreams!!

It was the last Saturday of August for Marina + Griff’s big day! What happens when your client injures her back 2 days before her wedding, and finds relief only in a lying position? We get the couple in the grass and make magic!

These two worked through some truly unique challenges and still got married and celebrated all day. From getting ready, to their first look, to portraits in the sunflowers and by the pond, to their ceremony and their celebration, they adjusted to make it all work, despite Marina not being able to stand for long periods of time. Yes, she spent much of the day in a lying position! (Yes, even during the ceremony!)

Marina did not hesitate to do what she needed to do to be comfortable. And yet, when you look through these photos, I think you’ll be surprised to find she truly enjoyed the day, and just about everything continued as planned. Their friends, family and chosen family really stepped up to help make their day come together, and support both marriers in any way they could.

And what a beautiful day we had for an all-outdoor backyard wedding! This is probably the most amount of pups I’ve seen at a wedding, and they were in the wedding party, they all walked down the aisle! After their potluck dinner, toasts, and cake cutting, the night became a choose your own adventure: some changed clothes and jumped into the pool, others danced to music on the deck, some explored the property, and others partook in celebratory treats. And then we had the most lovely golden hour at the end of the night!

This day will stay with me for a long time.

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
