Katherine + Nick’s Columbus Zoo wedding wasn’t at all how we planned it! So many things got changed up as we went, but guess what? It couldn’t have been more perfect! As I currently work through a busy peak wedding season, this wedding was a happy reminder to expect the unexpected!
We began our day getting ready at Nationwide Hotel. One of my favorite moments was when Katherine surprised her mother by revealing that she was wearing a veil with her wedding dress – something she had long insisted she wouldn’t, but her mother really wanted her to. Everyone was in on the surprise and her reaction was priceless! Once everyone was dressed, we staged Katherine and Nick’s first look on the back patio, and followed that up with some portraits with their wedding party before heading to the zoo.
At the zoo, we had planned to chill for a bit before the ceremony and take a trip to the carousel later in the evening – a must-have portrait spot for the couple. But with the threat of rain looming for the evening, we switched things up and went there right away – ended up being the right call! Thanks Amanda, our coordinator at the zoo, for making this last-minute change happen! While over there, we also got a hold of a soft pretzel snack which made for some funny pics!
Back at the Heart of Africa event center, Katherine and Nick’s ceremony was held overlooking the exhibit and its variety of animals, most notably the giraffes which photobombed many shots! Afterwards, the couple got to meet several animals including a baby leopard, kangaroo and a penguin, before feeding the giraffes! These two loved spending time with the animals, especially Katherine, who is a veterinarian.
And just in time and as predicted, the rain came during the reception – which later produced a rainbow!! Could their day been any better, I think not! Congratulations to Katherine + Nick!
Amy Ann, these are absolutely beautiful. You were wonderful to Kat and Nick the entire day and we thank you so much…..Janine Taylor MOB
