When I first met with Evann + Natalie over Skype to discuss their Cleveland wedding, they told me this fabulous engagement story, that took place in their current hometown of DC. So right away I thought, why not shoot their engagement session there? They absolutely loved the idea, and brought me out to DC earlier this month! It was an amazing trip (first night away from the babe!), but also, I had such a blast exploring DC with them! It happened to be an intensely windy day – tons of flights were cancelled, but luckily mine was not affected (still, some of the worst turbulence I’ve ever experienced!). But the wind definitely made an appearance in their photos! It was a bit cold, and the wind only magnified that, but luckily Evann + Natalie were totally down for whatever we needed to get amazing shots. And the wind actually helped in that respect!
We started that Friday morning at the W Hotel in downtown DC, the hotel where they got engaged! We wanted to shoot on their awesome rooftop space, but part of it was closed due to the wind, and as for the area that was open – the staff would not let us use anything other than a cell phone to shoot. My couple was a bit disappointed, but cell phone it is! Gotta work with the tools you got. iPhone’s portrait mode is scary good, and it was certainly better than nothing!
From there we headed to their must-have spot: Union Station! The arches and columns there are absolutely gorgeous. With the high winds that day, the government and most schools were closed, so the station wasn’t as crowded as I expected! We warmed up with a few indoor shots as well, then a few shots back outside in front of the Capital building.
From there, we did some exploring, by train, bus and by foot, to find some cool spots. We ended in another neighborhood they love – Georgetown. A great neighborhood to explore with interesting walkways, buildings and shops. And we had some amazing golden hour light to work with!
This trip was amazing and I can’t thank Evann + Natalie enough for it! I had a blast shooting discovering new locations and seeing the city in their eyes. Looking forward to their wedding this September!

I am Evann’s mother and Natalie’s mother-in-law to be. These are so wondrous, so full of love and energy, and oh, so beautiful.
Beautiful photos of two people who radiate love. Congrats.
