Jamie + Mel: Columbus Ohio LGBTQ+ Wedding at High Line Car House

Jamie and Mel have been friends of mine for some time, in fact I’ve known Jamie for almost 15 years! So when they got engaged, I was ECSTATIC. And I was even more thrilled when they asked me to photograph their High Line Car House wedding! They got married a year to the date of their proposal in Schiller Park. So yes, we returned there for wedding portraits, among other places around town!

We began our day at the new Courtyard by Marriott at Grandview Yard. Each bride got ready separately at the hotel, so I bounced back and forth between them, as they exchanged letters and cards, and got dressed with their attendants.

Once they were dressed, each of them headed over North Bank Park for their first look. My assistant Steve met us there, and got Mel ready before I arrived with Jamie. Their reactions to seeing each other for the first time was priceless! Their families were also nearby to witness, and joined us for some portraits against the Columbus skyline.

From there, we headed over to their wedding venue, the fabulous High Line Car House in the Brewery District. We shot a few more portraits on the surrounding block before heading into their ceremony. Jamie and Mel each walked down two aisles on either side of their guests simultaneously, and recited their own sweet, and at times hilarious, vows to each other. Then they broke the glass, kissed, and drove off in their scooter!

During cocktail hour, we headed back to their favorite spot just down the street, Schiller Park, for a few “just married” portraits. There we encountered some adorable pups, and beautiful golden hour light. After a full day of clouds, a little light was welcomed! It was really nice for Jamie and Mel to get some alone time, away from their guests, to take it all in.

Back at their venue, the reception began with first dances, dinner, toasts, and a crazy hora! It also happened to be Mel’s birthday, so Jamie surprised her with a birthday cheesecake! I had so much fun with these two, and so many of their guests that were familiar faces to me. Mazel Tov!!

Amy Ann Photography

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
