I just loved the look and feel of Amy + Brad’s fall wedding in downtown Columbus. Their look was romantic, against the backdrop of downtown Columbus, starting with their ceremony at the classic and traditional St. Joseph’s Cathedral, to their reception at the industrial chic design at The Vue in the Brewery District. And the entire day felt much that way – you could truly feel the love between them in every moment, even when they weren’t together. Amy was probably one the most detail-oriented brides I’ve ever worked with, which I loved, because there was no question that the day was planned to a T and no stone was left unturned. And yet, their wedding day was super laid-back and care-free. The only thing we had to worry about was rain, and even then, we made it work!
I had my assistant Chris with me for the entire day, and it was a long one! We started separately, Chris with the guys at the Hilton downtown and myself with the girls at the Hyatt Regency. Their pup Mia got ready alongside the girls and even had her own attire for the big day! The couple exchanged letters and gifts – each of them put a lot of time and thought into these! We did some separates portraits before boarding the trolley and heading to St. Joseph’s Cathedral for the Catholic ceremony.
Afterwards, guests joined Amy and Brad as they exited the church through a sea of bubbles, Mia in tow. We continued with portraits outside the church, followed by the Ohio Statehouse, and when it began to rain, we nixed our third location in favor of taking refuge in a covered spot directly across the street – which actually worked out very well for some additional casual portraits! It was also nice to just hang out and not feel rushed to get more done, which led to some really funny shots!
We boarded the trolley once again and headed to the reception venue, the Vue. The rain continued, but Amy + Brad didn’t mind using my cute clear umbrella for a few more outdoor shots! With the Vue being a newer venue, I welcomed the opportunity to shoot in a clean, industrial space, which was a great compliment to the impeccable details found throughout. Ohio State played Rutgers that night, and the game was projected onto the wall beside the dance floor so no one had to miss out! At the end of the evening, Amy + Brad’s guests joined them outside again in some light rain to see them off in a fabulous sparkler exit.
I had the opportunity to see Amy + Brad through their surprise proposal last summer, their engagement last fall, and now the trilogy is complete with their wedding day! It has been such a privilege to document Amy + Brad’s journey at each milestone. And this wedding was special for me in particular, as it was my 100th wedding! Congratulations to all of us!
