I shoot quite a few proposals, but Kari + Chris’s surprise proposal at the campus of Ohio State will always be especially memorable for me, because these were some of the most amazing reactions I’ve ever witnessed! Kari was truly shocked and over the moon when Chris dropped to one knee while walking past Mirror Lake during a stroll through campus. Though, it wasn’t a random day on campus – it was Buckeye football Saturday, just a couple hours before the much anticipated last home game of the season, against Michigan State. Chris told Kari they were meeting up with friends for a tailgate. After a drink on High Street – perfectly timed for the airplane flying overhead with a banner reading “KARI BEAUTIFUL – MARRY ME?! <3 CHRIS” and myself waiting to capture the big moment – they went for a little walk. The area around Mirror Lake was crowded but I cleared out the spot before they arrived. Kari’s reaction was truly the best, and what you can’t tell in the pictures is that random strangers were cheering them on throughout. What I love about this moment too, was that as it all sank in, Kari continued to react and you can really see the emotion in the pictures! Not much of what I shot that afternoon was posed or planned at all. Just the genuine feelings of being newly engaged. Congratulations to Kari + Chris!
