Nicole + Martina: Columbus Ohio Same-Sex Wedding at Clintonville Women’s Club

Nicole and Martina’s summer wedding at the Clintonville Women’s Club was sweet and beautiful, but in particular I loved their story: They met over zombie video game online, with Martina in her native Croatia, and Nicole here in the states, in Cincinnati. A few across-the-globe visits, and Martina finally immigrated to the US so they could be together, and they married a little over a year ago in Chicago. But they wanted to have a celebration for their Ohio family, and picked Columbus as the perfect city to host.

Their day started at the Clintonville Women’s Club, where we staged their first look outside, and then continued with portraits at the nearby Park of Roses. Later that afternoon, friends and family gathered back at the venue for their ceremony beneath a beautifully draped gazebo, where we were reminded of the journey that brought them to this day. Martina’s family traveled all the way from Croatia to witness the celebration! After the ceremony, Martina and Nicole helped distribute a stem of rosemary wrapped in ribbon to each guest, a sign of welcome in Croatian wedding tradition.

Their reception followed, with dinner, dancing, cake, and some dynamic lighting making for some cool shots! Next, Martina and Nicole are planning their next wedding celebration – in Croatia! Congratulations, ladies!

Thanks to Rachel Joy for shooting with me for a portion of the day!

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
