Taneka and John looked gorgeous in front of the camera during their engagement session earlier this spring, so it was no surprise that their wedding day would be fabulous! Their day was filled with bright colors and lots of sparkle – from Taneka’s bright pink flowers to her sparkly shoes; even her flowers were wrapped in rhinestones and accented with a vintage broach belonging to her late grandmother.
My second shooter Jennifer Stone joined me that morning at St. Olivet Baptist Church just outside downtown Columbus, where both Taneka and John gathered with their attendants to get ready. Taneka and John did not want to see eachother before their ceremony, but we managed to sneak some separate portraits without either of them catching a glimpse of the other! When they did finally meet as Taneka walked down the aisle, there was not a dry eye in the room – including that of the groom’s. And here’s what’s awesome about having a second shooter – Jennifer was able to get an amazing shot of Taneka and her father as they walked down the aisle – from the balcony!
After their ceremony, we got some quick “just married” couples portraits in an alley behind the church; the heavy clouds in the sky threatened of rain but made for a really dramatic backdrop which I loved. From there, we jumped in the limo and traveled a short distance to the Ohio Statehouse for some outdoor pictures… and upon our arrival, it started to rain! Taneka and John weren’t discouraged though, so while we waited for the rain to pass, we got a few couples shots under a covered portion of the side of the building. It wasn’t long before the clouds opened up and we were able to get some awesome pictures with the entire wedding party in front of the building!
Upon our arrival at the Lincoln Theatre for the reception, we gathered in a nearby alley for a few more wedding party and couples portraits. It was a dynamic scene: urban buildings dressed in crawling vines, coupled with the sun peaking between the clouds reflecting off freshly wet pavement from the quick rain. I thought it fit with their wedding theme and them as a couple perfectly.
Their reception, located in the Cardinal Health Ballroom just above the Lincoln Theatre, continued the theme of glitz, glam and all things bright pink, and had a cake that was among the best I’ve ever tasted! Their family and friends danced the night away – and as the sun set, I grabbed the couple for some gorgeous night shots against the bright lights of the Lincoln Theatre, with their names on the marquee. Congrats to Taneka and John, and enjoy these images from their fabulous day!
Thank you to Jennifer Stone for this fabulous shot from the balcony:
