Columbus Ohio LGBTQ Backyard Micro Wedding: Jen + Carie

Jen + Carie was another new couple I met since the pandemic hit. They contacted me and booked just a week before their backyard micro wedding! They had originally planned for a big, traditional celebration at a local wedding venue in January, and had just begun planning. But once covid-19 became a reality, they decided to scrap their plans completely and get married much sooner, and at a smaller, closer venue – their backyard! They invited about 10-15 of their closest friends and family to join them at their Grove City home, that Saturday evening in late May.

I arrived at their home that evening, just as each of them were getting dressed. I staged a First Look for them right before the ceremony, so we could get some daylight pictures out of the way before sunset. As sunset drew near, guests gathered under strung lights as Jen and Carie were married by their dear friend. Their ceremony culminated in a handfasting, aided by their nieces, who also performed a song later in the ceremony. Jen also surprised Carie by singing to her right after her vows! And their pup made some super cute cameos throughout.

By the end of their ceremony, the sky had turned mostly dark. As night set in, they celebrated with toasts, bundt cakes and tacos! What a lovely evening with such sweet people. Backyard weddings are truly something special. It was an honor to capture Jen and Carie’s micro wedding!

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
