Cleveland Orthodox Jewish Wedding: Devra + Josh

I first met Devra and Josh at Samantha and Barry’s August 2017 wedding. We hit it off right away and stayed in touch ever since. Before too long, Devra and 2 of her sisters were all engaged, but her date was the latest. So we saw each other again at Jannah’s wedding, and at Tali’s wedding, but finally on this Sunday in mid-June, on Father’s Day, it was her turn! It was certainly worth the wait.

Their festivities took place at the Ritz Carlton in downtown Cleveland. The day was overcast and threatened of rain, and in fact some sprinkles did interrupt our portrait time just a little. But it was just light enough that we could bring out the cute umbrella for a few shots! After the rain rolled in, we escaped for indoor portraits in nearby Tower City before their events began.

The rest of the day was full of so much love, energy and excitement – but Devra and Josh took me up on the offer to escape just after their chuppah for a few spinny shots in the street now that the rain had cleared. We didn’t have much time for this – Orthodox weddings are not designed with much wiggle room – but it was such a sweet moment for just the two of them, unplanned, just married, changed into comfy shoes, carefree. So them!

The rest of the evening was so much fun, and as always I just loved all the familiar faces. Their friends and family totally shocked them with a surprise performance! And then as the musical couple they are, instead of a first dance, they sang a first song together. I can’t say enough great things about these two, and their families. What a beautiful year it’s been!

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
