Tagan + Damian: Columbus Ohio Maternity Session + Surprise Proposal!

Tagan + Damian’s session last week was definitely a first for me! I’ve shot a lot of maternity sessions and surprise proposals over the years, but never both at the same time! Damian contacted me earlier this spring with the idea to book a maternity session for himself and his girlfriend, Tagan, and then at some point during the session, he would pop the question! The couple, originally from upstate New York, is relatively new to Columbus. Damian definitely knew he wanted a natural backdrop for his plans. So together we came up with visiting the Scioto Audubon Metro Park, and he himself selected the hill where he would drop to one knee, hoping for a dramatic, backlit shot. And we got it!

When our session first started, Tagan was so excited. I wonder if she had any idea what was to come… but once it happened about 15 minutes into the session, she seemed pretty shocked and was over the moon! The rest of the session was so wonderful, it was like we were celebrating their new news throughout. And for that 45 minutes or so, no one in the world knew they were engaged except for the three of us. It was special indeed.

Congratulations x 2 are in order for Tagan + Damian, expecting a baby boy next month, and now newly engaged!

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
