Girls on the Run of Franklin County: Spring 5k, May 12, 2012

Girls on the Run of Franklin County is an organization with a mission close to my heart. Ever since my sister interned for the organization a couple of summers ago, I have been a huge supporter. I just love how they empower girls by encouraging them to build their confidence and self-esteem through supporting eachother and achieving goals together!

This year, I had the opportunity to photograph their annual 5k in Wolfe Park, and it was absolute blast! It was so inspiring to watch girls (and boys!) and their families come together to support such an amazing cause, and root for eachother along the way. It wasn’t about who finished first, it was about achieving the goal of completing; many times I’d see girls who already finished re-enter the run just to encourage other runners to keep going. Before the event, the participants got jazzed by getting their hair spray painted, or getting some amazing face paint! It was such an inspiring event and incredibly rewarding to capture!

Check out some of my favorite images from the event below, and check out the full gallery here (look for for the gallery: “Girls on the Run 5k 2012”).

It’s not about who finishes first, but here is the first participant to complete the run:

About

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
